I have charted the division of the monies that has lead up to the
$60 million jackpot.
The winners receive 55% of total sales. At the top of each column,
you see what percentage each winners group receives - and I'm
showing both the new and old percentages.
You will also see the amount "carried over"
that will be paid to the 6 of 6 winner.
When the TLC changed Lotto Texas, they told us that they were paying
us 5% more in prizes. But they never spelled out how that 5% was divided -
Nor did they tell us they were deducting 5% from the schools portion to do this!
Anyway, 4.24% of the 5% goes to the six of six winner and they did this so
that the "advertised jackpot" amount would rise faster. For comparison,
I'm showing you how much would have been carried over had the 6 of 6 winners
portion remained at 64% of the 55% of total sales instead. Maybe someone can
tell us how much the "advertised jackpot" would have differed at 64%.
I also want you to know, that had there been a 6 of 6 winner at
the $4 million level, the TLC would have gone in the hole.
Of course, it wasn't likely to happen with those 4 new balls -
you must remember, there are 25.8 million combinations
now - so, generally speaking, they need to sell that
many tickets to have a 6 of 6 winner.

For tonights (9-9-00) $60 million winner, the TLC will either give
the
winner approx. $34 million (Cash Option) or they will invest this money
and
over a 25 year period, the winner will receive approx $60 million.
The interest is how the jackpot builds.
Out of $90 million in sales -
this is how the winners and the state made out.
And how do you like knowing how the cow ate the cabbage?
And for the record ...
on 7-7-93 with a $50 million jackpot, sales were $32.7 million
on 5-1-93 with a $50 million jackpot, sales were $37.9 million
on 3-12-94 with a $55 million jackpot, sales were $34 million
on 10-18-97 with a $55 million jackpot, sales were $28.3 million
And on 9-9-00 with a $60 million jackpot, sales were approx. $24.4 million
But, the TLC is happy - they came out smelling like a rose
even though sales were not up to snuff.
