Emails From Players Continued ...

I am very much interested in supporting "GET REAL." I can not attend because of my personal responsibility in the care of my 93 year old ill mother. However, I will write you a check for $35.00 to help with the expenses. Please go for it. I was one of the people who sent a protest e-mail, which was ignored. I also have friends who protested. When we finally got a state lottery, I was so pleased, & often entertained myself by buying tickets. Yes, I knew the odds were high, but the game seemed to be honestly represented, & honestly run. I always had at least one ticket for the two drawings on Wed. & Sat. nights & most of the time I had five. I have refused to buy a ticket since they added the four new balls. GO FOR IT, GIRL!!!! You may contact me when you are ready.

Because we are just protesting, we do not need money at this time.
However, if our issues are not addressed by "someone," then we
may need advertising dollars. But for now, we'll take it one day at a time.
My sincerest thanks to all of you for your support.
I'm proud to
report all arrangements have been made and we plan to tell them we
want to know the
TRUTH and we want them to take care of
the retailers once and for all. If you are planning on coming,
please let me know. We've got some VIP folks coming ...
but the more people we have, the stronger our message.

Yes.....I do want to join G.E.T. R.E.A.L. ......Wish I could be there to help.....and I really appreciate all the hard work you put into this effort for all the players...I just hope everyone appreciates you and all that you do. I am just so sick of this lottery commission thinking that they can really brain wash everyone into thinking they are doing this for the people....what a joke! Don't we all know whose pockets are being filled.....Good luck to all....

.......... Also, I think you missed a few points I am concerned about (but I know we have to keep the message simple). I am very upset about forged surveys being turned in and counted, even after the forgeries were proven. I am also very concerned about the changes being brought back up (and adopted) after the commission heard that the players were against it the first time. This still strikes me as a government policy and
accountability problem more than a lottery problem.

This is only a portion of an email I received - but I want to address this by saying that these issues are covered in the brochure I am publishing.

If I cannot make it to the 9/30 protest of the idiotic policies....and outright lies, then you have my permission to do so for me. SB

Sure hope you make it but thank you for joining GET REAL. We need people present! Also, I'm posting a flyer so ya'll can print it up and take to the convenience stores for exposure. Will be posted 9-24-00 here on my site.

Yes, I still do not like what they did, but it will be impossible for me to come to Dallas for the meeting as I am 80 years old and can not drive in Dallas but you have my vote that I am against the extra numbers. I am not going to vote for George Bush because he as Governor could have veto the ruling for 54 numbers. Keep me posted. I am still playing Cash 5 & won 878.00 a couple weeks ago. Your friend in Lotto against the 54 numbers.

I'm hearing from a great many folks who are angry at Gov. Bush too. Maybe that's what this is all about?

How about several of us (your supporters) contributing some of our lotto play cutbacks to assist you in putting out a special publication to "place under the doors of their attendees" while they are here. You might find the 15% that are willing to listen and do something faster this way. I would rather put $20 into this than try to squeeze in time to attend the protest dinner; however, I would do both if I had time. Keep up the good work.

Not a bad idea - in fact - that's on the list!

Dawn -- I would be willing to attend ($25?). If I might make a few suggestions: (1) I think it is important to do some picketing outside the meeting itself to ensure media coverage -- so that would probably need to be during the day on Friday. (2) To just picket you don't have to have 200, maybe just 50 or so (3) I personally believe the way to get media coverage is to emphasize the lack of truthfullness of lotteries in general and TLC in particular. (4) I was trying to think of a name for the group of people - how about GET REAL (Governments Evade Truthfullness, Responsibility, and Ethics in Advertising Lotteries) (5) I personally believe just complaining about 54 balls won't gain sufficient support in the media to generate much coverage. (6) Maybe concentrate on the lack of truthfulness in the way they went to 54 balls (7) There is still false advertising being done by TLC and most other lotteries on the way they state the odds of winning on scratchoff games. Just a few thoughts.

Excellent Ideas - "GET REAL" - Players, how 'bout it -
shall we call our campaign GET REAL?
By the way, this is exactly what I plan to display -
Documents showing what you have mentioned!

I will definitely buy a ticket (up to $25) for your dinner/dance/whatever. Whether I get to attend or not, I will share the costs. Since it will be on a Friday and I don't get out of work until 5, I don't know if I can attend. Last weekends of the month are a bad time at work with end of month reports. If I can, I will take the afternoon off and fly up, but I will do my best. (This gentleman is from south Texas!)

I never thought ya'll would contribute but not come. See, I'm not thinking clearly! Thank you very much. If this works out, then I'll accept your offer -But please, don't send me any money until I say it's a go. OK. We must have attendance. If you don't know what this is about, click here.

Dawn,
Do you think we might end up with 51 balls after the big turmoil?

No, if they are smart it'll be 49 balls!

Dawn, Thanks so much for your battle against the TLC. The fact that they are rounding their Wagons and not sending you information is proof enough that you have them on the run. The fact is that the whole mess reminds me of "The Watergate Scandal" and I'm sure that this administration has a lot to explain to the honest Citizens of this State who demand a truly open Lottery that cooperates with the players rather than antagonize them.

The truth is that the reason that sales are down is largely because you are informing us constantly about what the Commission is doing. They however, prefer to remain anonymous to the Public and refuse to see that we the players are not fooled by smoke and mirrors. I believe that in this State years ago any thought of fraud or deception was grounds for a Lynching! We will not play one more Dime in Lotto as long as this Commission continues to ignore the voice of the Players.

I for one thank you again for providing for us what this Administration with its secrecy and Bullheadedness insists is the way a Lottery should be run. We need a People friendly Lottery. So far the only one who has been able to gain the trust of the players is you. I for one will always remain a loyal friend. Stay with this Victory is yours and persistence is the key to opening the doors of resistance. The Commission will have its Day of reckoning with the People of Texas sooner or Later.

Take Care & God Bless...

Sometimes I feel like I'm fighting this battle alone - then I get a message like this - and I know I'm not alone. Thank you for the lift!

Dawn, Please send me a free copy of the Lotto Report. I read your columns diligently and really appreciate all you do to try to make it worth while to play. I am sorry they have answered your questions with rejection of your priviledges to info. That is very wrong and makes one suspect them even more. I have quit buying the 6/54. I play the pick 5 now but not even that as much as before. I am truly disillusioned with the whole lottery game. I hope "we" can get it back to something possible even if improbable. Thank You

Dawn,

I have been so disgusted with the TLC that I haven't visited your site in awhile. I was shocked to learn that Keith Elkins would act so childish. I think it's time to find out how to get them fired. I don't think they (THE TLC) have acted in the best interest of Texas or Texans nor do I feel any of them even under stand the word professional.

Good Morning Fearless Leader:

As I watch the ongoing saga of the people vs. the Lottery Commission, I thought I would point out a couple of facts that you have made obvious; before you point them out and the TLC trys to cancel your birthday or something. I refer to two items (a) the revised distribution of Lotto proceeds from the 54 number game as provided by you (b) industry information as found on the web site of LaFleur's Lottery World.

The 5 top selling Lotto games in 1999 {big game only - not complete lottery sales} were:

State Population Sales Per Person

California

32,700,000

$1,036,600,000

$31.7

New York

18,200,000

$749,200,000

$41.2

Florida

14,900,00

$737,900,000

$49.5

Texas

19,800,000

$720,000,000

$36.4

Ohio

11,200,000

$364,400,000

$32.5

Now referring to the above and the new distribution schedule:

(a) For Texas to net {give to the schools} the same money, 38% / 33% = 1.15, 1.15 X 720,000,000 = $828,000,000. This also translates to $36.4 X 1.15 = $41.9 per person. This would move us to #2 in terms of total lotto sales & #2 within the top 5 in per person sales.

(b) The above statement is just to maintain the revenue generated by the Lotto 6/50 in 1999. In dollar terms, this is an additional $1,038,462 in Lotto sales per game.

(c) To generate the additional $26,000,000 in revenue as promised (for schools), would require that annual sales for the 6/54 game be $907,879,000 per year or $45.85 per person, a sales increase per person of 26% or $9.45 from every adult and child in the state. I consider this unlikely, as I'm pretty pissed off and someone else will have to contribute my share. (And my share too!)

I suggest that your current problem with the commission is they are not accustomed to an inquiring public. They are practicing the standard political stance of 'deny everything & make counter accusations'. The TLC doesn't seem to be experienced at this. If they are interested, I heard of a politician who will be available in January who supposedly can 'mislead' quite well. I think his name is Clinton? In the mean time, I believe our governor is campaigning for President on the policy of governmental integrity. You might try talking to him, or any Republicans in the state government. If that doesn't help, talk to the press and the Democrats.

Thank goodness for the smart people who visit my site!
This one made me smile.
